Sremski Karlovci, Serbia, October 15-17, 2025

The MEDIA PONT organization hosted a training course in Sremski Karlovci focused on sustainable agriculture—an essential sector for meeting climate and environmental goals. Serbia, with its rich agricultural heritage, faces challenges such as soil degradation, inefficient water use, and the slow adoption of eco-friendly practices, which urgently need attention. The event kicked off with a presentation by the NGO “Our World, Our Rules” from Vranje. Staša Cvetković shared insights into how young people can drive change within their local
communities.

Aradi Vladimir Huba from Media Pont led lectures and workshops on the European Green Deal, highlighting its current status and the implications for agriculture. The Farm to Fork Strategy, a key document for sustainable agriculture, was introduced to raise awareness about how personal habits impact the environment. Discussions also covered the imbalance in global food production and the alarming rate of food waste.

Following a simulation on the relationships between stakeholders, the official part of the event concluded with a lively discussion among young people from Lithuania (Darnoje), Spain (Inercia Digital), Greece (KDETYD), Slovenia (Doves), and Serbia (Media Pont). They explored Europe’s ambition to become the first carbon-neutral continent by 2050.

On the second day, the IPARD and LEADER programs were introduced through an online presentation by Andrej Papić from the EU Delegation to Serbia. These programs offer significant opportunities for young people to get involved in agricultural sustainability efforts.

The remainder of the day focused on Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to agriculture. During a workshop, participants discussed the social aspects of the SDGs and began drafting a set of recommendations to present to stakeholders.

Both the European Green Deal and Agenda 2030 are critical documents shaping the global response to climate change. The project “Engaging Youth in a Digital Green Future 2.0” aims to engage young people with these frameworks and inspire action.

The final day’s theme was Regenerative Agriculture, led by Svetlana Vujkov, Associate Professor at the University of Novi Sad, Faculty of Agriculture, and representative of the Alliance for Regenerative Agriculture of Serbia. Regenerative agriculture, a holistic farming approach, emphasizes restoring and improving environmental health, particularly soil quality, by working in harmony with nature. This approach is gaining momentum, and experts are key to advocating for the rebuilding of soil health, enhancing biodiversity, and supporting the economic and social well-being of farmers.

The interactive session combined expert presentations with peer collaboration, enabling participants to gain the knowledge and skills necessary for action at both local and European levels.
