From 14 to 16 May 2026, Greenovate (Erasmus+ project Engaging Youth in a Digital Green Future

2.0 (EY-DGF 2.0) Youth Participation Days were implemented in Kaunas, Lithuania, bringing together young participants from Slovenia, Greece, Spain, Lithuania and Serbia to explore sustainable energy, circular economy, innovation and youth participation in the green transition.

The activities aimed to increase young people’s knowledge, confidence and awareness of renewable energy, sustainability and the European Green Deal through a combination of workshops, discussions, study visits and interactive community-based activities.

During the programme, participants visited the UAB FOKSITA Biomass Cogeneration Power Plant, where Technical Manager Mindaugas Jasiukaitis introduced the group to biomass energy generation and explained how renewable energy can be produced from wood-based biofuel resources. The visit helped participants better understand the practical side of sustainable energy production and the role biomass can play in supporting more environmentally responsible energy systems.

Participants also visited Kaunas City Municipality, where they met with Kaunas IN investment environment project managers. The meeting introduced participants to Kaunas’ investment environment, urban development projects and the city’s approach to innovation, long-term planning and sustainable growth.

Another important part of the programme was a visit to the Kaunas Regional Waste Management Centre / bulky waste collection site, where participants learned about waste separation, recycling systems and waste management processes implemented in the Kaunas region. The visit encouraged participants to reflect on responsible consumption, overconsumption, recycling and the importance of circular economy solutions in everyday life.

In Kaunas District, participants joined a kite festival, where they created their own sustainable Greenovate kite. This creative activity became a symbol of youth ideas, teamwork and the shared ambition to lift green thinking higher.

The Greenovate Youth Participation Days demonstrated that sustainability is not only about technology, infrastructure or policy. It is also about people, participation, creativity and the willingness of young people to take an active role in shaping a greener future.
